Policy Regarding Players
Seeking Partners
Revised: 24 December
2023
Jourdan’s
Palm Beach recognizes that bridge is a game played by partnerships. It is best enjoyed when the partnerships have
developed a rapport that enhances communication and maximizes the inherent
social aspect of the game.
For this
reason, we strongly encourage players to seek out partners for regular
play... However, it is not always
possible to have a regular partner available to play; for this reason, the Club
has incorporated the following policy regarding players needing partners:
On most
days, the Director does not have a game scheduled with a pre-arranged
partner. So, most days, the Director is
available to play if there is a player who is present without a partner.
If there
are two players seeking partners, they will be paired with one another. If one player declines to play with the
other, the one who chooses not to play cannot be accommodated and the Director
will play with the remaining player.
If there
are more than two players seeking partners, they will be paired up as best the
Director can determine to maximize enjoyment of all. (see above if there
is an odd number of singles.)
When
there is a ‘house player’ available, that player will be utilized to complete a
partnership, or to fill out a half-table.
Longer
term, the Club is initiating a Partnership Matching initiative, whereby players
can complete a form and will receive assistance matching their backgrounds and
goals with other compatible players. A
copy of this form can be found on this website (CLICK
HERE), or can
be obtained at the Club. Simply complete
it, return it to your game director, and indicate that you would like
assistance locating partners...
Jourdan’s
is also researching the use of tablets as ‘players’ in order to eliminate half
tables at game time.
